“Sometimes” was originally written and recorded by Seth Gibbs, a legendary musician, sound engineer and friend. This is a tribute to him, his humble, kind and generous spirit.

Ley Line formed in Seth Gibb’s home studio throughout the year of 2015. We met him with the intention of recording one song, “The Wolf.” When we finished he casually said, “what else do y’all have to record?” That modest invitation evolved into a year of late nights recording our collection of songs at his house and later at his new studio, Sweetheart Studios. Seth’s colorful, quirky and welcoming nature could be felt in the studio he built in that old East Austin house. One song became twelve, and before we knew it we were taking our first album “Field Notes” on the road. Seth’s generosity and invaluable contribution kick started our journey as Ley Line.

In 2018, we got the heartbreaking news that Seth was very sick with cancer. Before we knew it, he was gone. The memorial was held in downtown Austin and musicians and friends played tributes to Seth and were handed out CD’s titled “I Love You.”

“We found out that when Seth got sick, he went out to the hill country to record this album with his friends,” Emilie remembers. “The CD played on repeat in my car for months. It just made my heart swell. Every single song was divine, playful and sincere about the heaviness of life. ‘Sometimes’ is on this album, and I brought it to Ley Line one day because I thought we should cover it. I reached out to Seth’s brother who graciously told us the song is ours to play and record however we wish. Now, Seth comes through us on most every stage we play and forever in this recording.”
